Music Department
High School Band, Grades 9-12, 1 credit
This course consists of a (seasonal) daily marching band and concert band rehearsal. Musical performance skills acquired in the middle school band are expanded and refined. Daily ensemble playing is designed to expose students to various styles of music and composers as well as degrees of technical difficulty. Attendance of all after school rehearsals and performances as well as the two weeks of band camp in July/August is mandatory. Grading for the first 9 week grading period will begin on the first day of camp. Music skills, discipline, personal responsibility, group cooperation and goal achievement, pride and self-confidence are emphasized. Because of the unique character of the band that is so group performance orientated, students who complete band camp will not be allowed to withdraw from the band until the end of the year without the band director's permission.
*Pre-requisites: Successful completion of Middle School Band and/or audition and successful completion of both weeks of band camp (held in July/August before the start of the regular school year).
