Parent & Student Handbook
School Owned Instruments
School owned instruments that are being used by the student are the complete responsibility of that individual student and their parents.
The philosophy is that some band instruments are too expensive or too specialized for the average student and parent to purchase; therefore, the school district has provided this instrument for the student to use at no charge. The students are presented with a relatively new or completely new, working band instrument that may be used for all official school related rehearsals and functions. They are to maintain this instrument throughout their tenure with the band.
The student and their parents will be required to sign a contract with the school district for the use of these school owned band instruments.
All repairs and subsequent costs for repair of the school owned instrument other than normal maintenance for wear and tear will be the responsibility of the student and their parents. Mr. Riffle's decision as to what constitutes normal wear and tear on the instrument will be final.
The theft or loss of these school owned instruments will be the complete responsibility of the individual student and parent.
These school owned instruments will be inspected periodically.
Rules for Maintenance of School Owned Instruments
- Instruments must be kept in working order at all times.
- All repairs must be done professionally at a pre-approved repair facility.
- All repair costs will be the responsibility of the student and parent.
- Any and all damages are to be reported immediately.
At the time of returning the school owned instrument, it is expected to be returned in exactly the same state of repair and condition that it was originally given to the student. Any repair or adjustment that is required to bring this instrument back to its initial state of repair and condition will be the responsibility of the student and their family.
Treat this instrument as if it is your own instrument!
Take care of it! Do not abuse it! Play it proudly!
