Parent & Student Handbook
Uniforms
Uniforms are the complete responsibility of the individual student and their parents.
The philosophy is that the students are presented with a clean, pressed uniform in good condition when they join the High School Band. They are to maintain this uniform throughout their tenure in the band.
Students uniforms will be inspected before each and every performance. A forgotten uniform part, a dirty, wrinkled or stained uniform will result in the lowering of the band grade.
Students will be provided with a raincoat. All Band Students MUST bring their raincoat to each and every performance! It will be Mr. Riffle's decision as to whether they leave their raincoats on the bus, carry them, or wear them. Nothing else will be permitted to be worn at a Football Game/Band Festival or Parade, such as blankets, extra jackets, scarves, sweatshirts etc.
When we travel to away football games or parades uniform bags, and instrument cases should be left on the bus/band trailer.
Black marching shoes and plain black socks (calf or knee length) are part of the Band Uniform. The student must purchase their own shoes, however, an opportunity to purchase shoes at school is provided every spring (usually in May). The shoes must be clean and shined at all performances. Students must wear either shorts or pants under the Uniform pants, also students must wear a T-Shirt (with sleeves) under the Uniform Jacket (tube or tank tops are not permited).
Rules for Maintenance of Band Uniforms
- Uniforms must be kept clean and pressed at all times.
- All alternations must be done professionally.
- No replacement materials are to be used.
- Any and all damages are to be reported immediately.
- Uniforms MUST be dry cleaned only. No part of the uniform is machine washable. (Despite what you may hear!)
- Hats are to be wiped off with a dry rag. Do not immerse the hat in water.
- Uniforms are to be kept in the uniform bag and hung on the plastic hangers provided. Do not use the wire (cleaners) hangers!
- Do not place anything in the hat or hat box. It is not a purse.
- Do not carry the hat by the chin strap or plume.
- If a uniform gets muddy, let the uniform dry first; then brush the dirt off.
- No material is to be cut off of any uniform.
- All stains must be professionally cleaned, immediately!
- When returning a uniform, be sure all parts are together and have it professionally cleaned.
- After a performance, let the uniform hang in fresh air for a period of time so that it will dryout and not start to mildew from perspiration.
- Any part not repairable will be replaced by the student at their expense.
- Students are not to permitted to eat while in uniform.
This is your uniform to wear. Wear it proudly! Do not abuse it! If we look sloppy, it is very hard to maintain our PRIDE and CLASS.
